Patiala, March 12: The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has provided critical relief to a Patiala-based mechanic, covering a medical bill of approximately ₹90,000. Gurtej Singh, a resident of Mandoli village, was able to access six days of comprehensive treatment at a private facility after being enrolled in the state’s flagship health insurance program.
Before obtaining the health card, Singh’s family was facing the prospect of borrowing significant sums to cover hospital stay and medication costs. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed that the program is designed specifically to prevent medical emergencies from becoming long-term financial burdens. He declared that the administration is committed to protecting the well-being of all 65 lakh families in the state.
“Without the card, we would have had to borrow and struggle for months,” Singh maintained, expressing gratitude for the timely assistance. He declared that the cashless treatment allowed him to recover without the added stress of a looming financial crisis.
The scheme currently covers nearly 3 crore residents and provides access to more than 2,300 treatment packages across 800 empanelled hospitals. Officials stated that by offering substantial annual coverage, the government is building a robust safety net for Punjab’s working class.
