Bollywood stars have taken to social media to express their outrage at the horrible rape and murder of a female medical student in Kolkata. A 31-year-old doctor’s body was discovered in a lecture hall at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the morning of August 9, according to PTI. The terrible incident prompted a number of actors, including Alia Bhatt and Ayushmann Khurrana, to go to social media to draw attention to the ongoing issue of women’s safety in India.

Nationwide protest continues seeking justice for victim of “Kolkata rape & murder case”

Hrithik Roshan stated that he stands firmly with the victim’s family. “I stand with the victim’s family in seeking justice for their daughter”, he wrote.

Twinkle Khanna took to Instagram on Thursday to post a sorrowful message seeking justice for the Kolkata rape and murder victim.

“Fifty years on this planet, in this country, and I am teaching my daughter the same things I was taught as a child. Don’t go alone – to the park, to school, to the beach,” she wrote. “Don’t go alone with any man, even if it’s your uncle, cousin or friend. Don’t go alone in the morning, the evening and especially not at night,” she continued and then added by saying, “Don’t go alone because it’s not a matter of if, but when. Don’t go alone because you may never come back.”

Alia Bhatt wrote: “Another horrible rape. Another day of realizing that women are not safe anywhere.”

Invoking the horrors of the Nirbhaya disaster that occurred in India more than 10 years ago, she added, “Another horrific atrocity to remind us that it’s been over a decade since the Nirbhaya tragedy, yet nothing much has changed.”

Alia also noted worrisome findings from the NCRB 2022 report. She highlighted the fact that women account for 80% of India’s nursing workforce and 30% of the country’s physicians, making them particularly vulnerable to the rising tide of violence against healthcare workers. She also highlighted the fact that the number of crimes committed against women has risen by 4% since 2022, with rape and assault accounting for more than 20% of these crimes.

Actor Vijay Varma shared a video on Instagram with the caption, “At least, protect our protectors.”

Ayushmann Khurrana shared a poem on Instagram titled “Kaash Mei Bhi Ladka Hota” (I Wish I Were a Boy). In this devastating video, Ayushmann captures the universal thoughts and concerns that women experience. The poem imagines what life would be like for women if they weren’t constantly on edge, if they could go about their business without fear of consequences, and how much simpler it would be to sleep comfortably at night.

Vir Das, a comedian and actor, also rushed to Twitter to query the government regarding women’s safety.

Kareena Kapoor referred to the Nirbhaya rape case from 2012 in her social media post, demanding action in the matter.

“Twelve years later, the same story and protest. But we’re still hoping for change,” she stated in her message, which included the broken heart emoji.

She used numerous hashtags in her caption, including #JusticeForMoumita, #KolkataRapeAndMurderCase, #ViolenceAgainstWomen, #JusticeForWomen, #WomenSafety, and #FreedomForWomen.

Parineeti Chopra wrote in a reshared post regarding the incident, “Disgusting. Horrific.”

Both Ritiesh and Genelia shared a post that read, “Imagine your legs being so forcefully pulled apart, that your pelvis breaks. Your neck strangled till your mouth bleeds. The specs you wear, crushed hard into your eyes.
