Rahul alleges 65 lakh poor struck off Bihar voter list

SITAMARHI, Aug. 28— Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that the names of 65 lakh poor and socially disadvantaged people have been deleted from Bihar’s electoral rolls, accusing the BJP and the Election Commission of conspiring to deny citizens their right to vote.

Addressing a rally in Sitamarhi during the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra, Gandhi said, “We have exposed the BJP and the EC, who were indulging in stealing votes. They did it in Maharashtra, Haryana and Karnataka. Now they want to repeat it in Bihar, which we will not allow them to do.”

He claimed the alleged voter deletions primarily target the poor and weaker sections of society, warning that the people of Bihar would resist what he termed an attempt to “rob” them of their franchise. Gandhi also said he would present further evidence of “vote chori” in the coming months.

Earlier in the day, the Congress leader visited the historic Janaki Temple and offered prayers before joining the rally. Bihar is scheduled to go to polls later this year, with voter rights emerging as a central theme of his campaign.
