New Delhi, Dec 25: Girdhari Lal, a solo cyclist from Rajasthan, is traveling from Leh to Kanyakumari to advocate for a “Drug-Free India.”
Speaking during a brief stop in Qazigund, south Kashmir, Lal explained his mission: “This journey is about spreading the message of a drug-free and self-reliant India. I began from Leh on December 20, aiming to cross 12 states, and plan to reach my final destination by February 10.”
Lal spoke of the hardships faced during the journey, especially freezing temperatures in Leh and Kashmir, but remained resolute. “The cold is challenging, but my mission keeps me going. People along the way have been incredibly supportive, and the warmth and safety I’ve experienced in Kashmir defy negative media portrayals,” he said.
Beyond raising awareness about drug abuse, Lal urged people to embrace physical activities for personal and environmental health. “Cycling is not just about fitness; it’s a step towards a sustainable and less polluted environment. The fewer vehicles we use, the cleaner our air will be,” he stated.
He also underlined building physical resilience, saying, “Strengthening one’s body requires effort. Activities like cycling foster healthier lifestyles and a stronger nation.”
The cyclist expressed gratitude for the support received throughout his journey and highlighted the unity he has witnessed across the country.—(KNO)
