Teenager dominates seasoned internationals as push for senior national selection intensifies

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 11— Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his remarkable rise in professional cricket on Friday, securing a Player of the Match award after a blistering 78-run cameo against the defending champions. The performance has intensified discussions regarding his potential inclusion in the Indian squad for the forthcoming tour of Ireland.

The youngster showed no signs of intimidation against a veteran bowling unit, scoring heavily against Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His rapid scoring rate has propelled him to the top of the IPL run-charts this season. “It’s rare you get a chance to pick up someone so talented and sooooo young too,” noted IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, who affirmed that Sooryavanshi’s name should be etched in history as the country’s youngest debutant.

The left-hander’s journey to the IPL spotlight included a standout 175-run performance against England in the U19 World Cup final, but his ability to transition that success to the senior domestic stage has surprised many analysts. Despite the pressure of a second season, Sooryavanshi has maintained a strike rate that has consistently pressured the world’s top-ranked bowlers.

As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) looks toward the next international cycle, the focus remains on whether the selection committee will fast-track the 15-year-old. While the historic benchmark set by Sachin Tendulkar has stood for decades, Sooryavanshi’s current trajectory suggests he is a viable candidate to reset the record books. The batter stated through his performances that he is ready for the challenge, having already secured the Orange Cap with 200 runs across four appearances.
