Jaipur/Delhi, 6 September: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Rajasthan after continuous heavy rainfall lashed parts of the state, adding to the already grim flood situation across North India.
Delhi and Punjab are facing severe inundation, with overflowing drains, waterlogged colonies, and stranded vehicles. In Delhi, the Yamuna River crossed the danger mark again, forcing authorities to evacuate residents from low-lying areas. In Punjab, over a dozen villages in Ropar and Patiala districts have been cut off due to swollen rivers.
Rajasthan’s Kota and Bundi districts reported house collapses, while several bridges were washed away. “We are monitoring the situation round-the-clock and relief camps have been set up,” Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma said.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann appealed to the Centre for additional NDRF teams and financial aid. Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast that heavy rains will persist in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Haryana over the next 48 hours.
