Chandigarh, Aug 11: The UT police have exposed a Rs 1.09-crore visa fraud involving Sector 17-based M/s Shree Ram Overseas, booking owner Deepak Sharma and two others for duping job seekers across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
Sharma (37), of Sector 18, was earlier arrested in June for a similar fraud linked to the same firm but jumped bail after being sent to Burail Model Jail under the BNS and Immigration Act. A lookout notice is now being prepared against him.
The latest case stems from a complaint by Arshdeep Singh (21) of Mundi Kharar, who alleged paying Sharma Rs 10.5 lakh — in cash and UPI — for an Australian work visa between October 2023 and December 2024. He neither got the visa nor a refund, and his passport was withheld.
Police inquiries uncovered at least 11 more complaints, with losses ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. Co-accused Pawan Kumar and Rajni have also been named in the FIR, registered under Sections 318(4), 61(2) of the BNS and Section 24 of the Immigration Act. ASI Anshuman is leading the probe.
In a separate case, Sector 17 police booked Kuljit Singh Rana of Campbell Visa Consultants, Sector 17-C, for allegedly cheating Ramesh Singh of Sector 56 of Rs 2 lakh on the promise of work and tourist visas that never materialised.
