New Delhi, March 5: Paramjit Singh Sarna, president of the Delhi Akali unit, has urged the Union government to prepare for the potential evacuation of Sikhs and other Indian-origin residents from Tehran due to the deteriorating security situation in Iran.

In a communication addressed to the Prime Minister, Mr. Sarna stated that the proximity of Sikh religious sites and homes to potential military targets in the capital has caused significant alarm. He mentioned that the Bhai Ganga Singh Sabha Gurdwara serves as a central hub for the community, which now finds itself in a zone of heightened vulnerability.

“I urge the Prime Minister to engage with international leaders and the authorities concerned to ensure the safety of Indians in Tehran,” Mr. Sarna asserted.

The Delhi Akali leader declared that the current atmosphere of explosions and military exchanges has triggered deep anxiety for families in India who have relatives living in the Iranian capital. He suggested that proactive diplomacy and a clear exit strategy are necessary to prevent any loss of life.

“The safety of every Indian abroad is paramount. The government must closely monitor the situation and take timely steps to ensure that our people are not caught in the crossfire of a conflict that is rapidly escalating,” Mr. Sarna maintained.

While acknowledging the historical presence of the community in Iran, he affirmed that the current level of hostility requires immediate state intervention. He noted that the Ministry of External Affairs should stay in constant contact with the local community leaders in Tehran to coordinate relief or transport if the situation worsens further.
