Panipat, July 31 — A man was shot and injured in Sutana village on Thursday morning in a targeted attack allegedly carried out by a fellow villager with a criminal background. The injured, Sonu, is the brother-in-law (jeth) of the local woman sarpanch, Ritu Devi.
According to police, the assailant — identified as Kallu, a resident of the same village — rammed his car into Sonu’s motorcycle as he was returning from his fields. “As Sonu fell into the adjoining field, Kallu opened fire and fled,” said DSP (Headquarters) Satish Vats, who visited the hospital along with the local SHO.
Sonu, despite sustaining bullet injuries, managed to run towards the village for help. He was rushed to a private hospital in Panipat city by his family, where his condition is reported to be stable and out of danger, police said.
A case has been registered based on Sonu’s complaint. “The accused Kallu has a criminal history. The exact motive behind the attack will be ascertained after a detailed investigation,” DSP Vats stated.
Police are conducting raids to arrest the accused, who remains absconding.
