Udhampur, Feb 3: Joint security forces launched a major anti-terror operation in Udhampur’s Basantgarh sector on Tuesday afternoon after receiving specific leads on terrorist movement. The encounter began when a search party comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police came under fire during a combing exercise in the rugged terrain.

The gunfight, which started around 4 pm, saw a heavy exchange of fire as the forces zeroed in on the suspected hideout. The White Knight Corps directly said that a solid cordon is in place and the operation is being conducted with a high degree of precision based on coordinated intelligence.

Local authorities have restricted movement in the general area to ensure civilian safety as the firefight progresses. The operation is being spearheaded by CIF Delta, with support from paramilitary units.

“Contact has been established by the troops… Firefight is on,” the Army mentioned in its official update. Command officers at the scene noted that the difficult geography of Basantgarh often poses challenges, but the joint teams are maintaining a tight grip on the encounter site as they wait for further developments.
