CHANDIGARH, Feb 27 — Precautionary security measures were activated across Chandigarh today as several schools and government buildings received threat communications via email. The development triggered a swift coordinated response from the police and emergency services, who worked to secure campuses in Sectors 8, 10, 16, and 38, among others.
The emails, which appeared to link the threats to various political and international grievances, claimed that disruptions would occur throughout the city over the next 48 hours. In response, several schools initiated evacuation protocols, and examination centers paused their schedules to allow for thorough inspections by specialized teams.
“Police officials and bomb squad teams rushed to the institutions as soon as they were informed,” a department spokesperson declared. He affirmed that while the messages mentioned specific times and locations, including the Secretariat building, thorough checks are being conducted to maintain public order.
The content of the messages included references to the late Hardeep Singh Nijjar and mentioned a “Khalistan National Army.” Officials stated that the nature of these emails is remarkably similar to the hoax threats received in late January. They asserted that while the threats are being taken seriously for safety reasons, there is no need for panic.
Security agencies affirmed that they are coordinating with cyber-crime experts to identify the Purported signatories of the email. They stated that normal operations are expected to resume fully once all institutional sites have been cleared by the fire and safety services.
