Kharar, July 18: In a major blow to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Kharar, senior party leader and real estate businessman Ranjit Singh Gill has announced his decision to resign from the party. Gill, who served as the constituency in-charge and had contested twice from Kharar Vidhan Sabha, confirmed on Thursday that he has completely distanced himself from the SAD.
Despite being considered a close aide of party president Sukhbir Badal, Gill cited growing discontent within the party’s local cadre as the reason behind his exit. “This decision has been taken after consulting local workers,” Gill said, alleging that the party leadership had ignored grassroots leaders while assigning responsibilities.
He also pointed to the removal of Jathedars from Akal Takht Sahib, an issue that triggered deep resentment among the people of the region.
“There is widespread dissatisfaction with how outsiders are being favoured in internal committees, while senior local leaders are sidelined,” Gill said.
His departure is being seen as a significant setback for SAD in the region ahead of the next electoral cycle.
