Chandigarh, Jan 20: Sukhchain Singh has been named the new chief of Punjab’s Intelligence unit following a fresh round of transfers ordered by the state administration. The Department of Home Affairs issued the directive on Tuesday, citing administrative requirements for the immediate relocation of multiple senior officers.
Singh moves into the role from his previous posting at the police headquarters, filling a vacancy that was temporarily managed by DGP PK Sinha. While Singh takes the helm of intelligence, Sinha will focus his efforts on leading the Vigilance Bureau.
“This reorganization is part of a routine administrative process intended to optimize the distribution of senior expertise,” an official mentioned during the announcement.
The order details several lateral movements for veteran officers. SS Srivastava, a 1994-batch officer, has shifted his focus from security to headquarters as the new Special DGP. Meanwhile, Naresh Arora, also from the 1994 batch, will serve as Special DGP for Human Rights while maintaining his current oversight of the PSHRC.
In the security sector, 2001-batch officer Dr. Kaustubh Sharma has transitioned to the role of ADGP Security. The government also redirected the efforts of DIG Sandeep Goel, who will now balance his existing duties at the Amritsar Border Range with a new role at the Anti-Gangster Task Force-2 in Ludhiana.
Further adjustments include the appointment of Maninder Singh as AIG Welfare and Kanwaldeep Singh as AIG Personnel-1. These changes are intended to ensure a fuller flow of leadership across the various specialized departments of the Punjab Police.
