Amritsar, October 13 — The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) will hold its executive body meeting at its headquarters in Amritsar on Monday. Sources said the meeting will discuss key Panthic and administrative matters, and may also finalise the date for the annual General House session to elect the new SGPC president.
With several major religious events scheduled in November to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur, insiders indicated that the General House may be convened earlier than usual to ensure smooth coordination and leadership ahead of the observances.
Under the Gurdwara Act, 1925, the SGPC’s top office-bearers—including the president, senior vice-president, junior vice-president, general secretary, and 15-member executive body—must be elected annually, either unanimously or through voting.
Although the Chief Gurdwara Election Commission had announced fresh SGPC elections for its five-year term, the polls have not been conducted yet. As a result, the members elected over a decade ago will once again participate in choosing the next president.
