Amritsar, Jan 30: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee handed over essential documents to a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team on Thursday, marking a shift in the ongoing investigation into 328 missing saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The records were transferred at the SGPC sub-office in Chandigarh following a directive from the Akal Takht to assist state authorities.

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami was present during the exchange and noted that the committee complied with every written request made by the investigators. The move follows a previous stance where the religious body maintained that its internal matters were independent of police interference.

“The information was handed over at the SGPC’s sub-office in Chandigarh as per the directions of Akal Takht Sahib. All the information that was sought in writing by the SIT has been duly provided,” Dhami said. He also noted that the committee remains open to extending further formal cooperation if the SIT requires more assistance in the future.

AIG Jagatpreet Singh, who leads the SIT, confirmed the receipt of the files and stated that the police would now begin a detailed examination of the data. The investigation stems from an FIR registered in December 2025 that names 16 individuals, including former officials, on charges of criminal breach of trust and forgery.

“The officials of the SGPC have fully cooperated with the SIT. After the scrutiny of this record, if any further queries arise, they may again approach the SGPC to seek additional records,” Singh said. He added that while the investigation is underway, specific details regarding the findings cannot be shared yet.
