SGPC slams fake AI videos of Darbar Sahib, urges govt crackdown

by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, September 24 – The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has condemned the creation of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated videos portraying the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in a false light, calling it a serious attack on Sikh sentiments and urging governments to act immediately.

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the misuse of AI not only distorts the sanctity of Sri Darbar Sahib, the central shrine of Sikhs, but also hurts religious sensitivities worldwide. “Sri Harmandar Sahib is where the message of universal brotherhood is shared with humanity. The wrong use of technology is deeply painful for the Sikh community,” he said in a statement issued Tuesday.

Dhami stressed that it is the duty of government cybercrime cells to act decisively against such content. He recalled that the SGPC has earlier flagged similar incidents, including misrepresentation of Gurbani, Sikh history, and the teachings of the Gurus, and had succeeded in getting many such videos removed.

“It is unfortunate that AI technology is being misused. To stop such actions that hurt religious feelings, the SGPC will soon hold a meeting with individuals and institutions working in this field,” Dhami noted. He also urged the Government of India to frame a strict policy to curb such trends.

Expressing further concern, Dhami pointed out that some individuals were circulating the false videos on their own social media accounts to “show something wrong is happening,” which he described as even more painful. “Instead of sharing, people should report such videos so they can be blocked,” he appealed.
