Shimla, April 8: A targeted operation by the Shimla district police has resulted in the arrest of a Chandigarh-based woman allegedly involved in the regional heroin trade. Rekha, 40, was taken into custody in the Downdale area after police recovered 40 grams of heroin from her possession during a search operation conducted late Tuesday night.
The special cell team initiated the crackdown following intelligence suggesting that a drug peddler was en route to Kodi Basti to sell the contraband. Upon stopping the suspect, officers found the heroin meticulously hidden to avoid detection. The district police affirmed that this arrest represents a significant step in disrupting the supply chain connecting Chandigarh to the hill capital.
“The arrest came on Tuesday night, when a special cell team received a tip that a woman drug peddler was on her way to Downdale,” SSP Gaurav Singh stated. He affirmed that the contraband was found in a plastic packet within the woman’s purse and that the suspect was immediately taken to the station for questioning.
Following the seizure, the police declared that the suspect faces charges under the NDPS Act. Officials asserted that further investigations are underway to map out the distribution network Rekha was reportedly operating within. The department maintained that patrolling and intelligence gathering have been intensified near the old bus stand and surrounding residential areas to prevent further smuggling attempts.
