Chandigarh, April 5: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday appealed to farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal to end his indefinite hunger strike, assuring that the government remains committed to dialogue over farmers’ demands.
In a social media post, Chouhan said, “The talks between the representatives of the Government of India and farmer organisations are ongoing. Jagjit Singh Dallewal has returned from the hospital—we wish him a speedy recovery and appeal to him to end his fast to death.”
The Union Minister reaffirmed that the next round of talks will be held on May 4 at 11 a.m. as scheduled.
His statement is being viewed as a gesture acknowledging Dallewal’s role in the farmers’ movement, while also underlining the government’s concern for the health and dignity of protesting leaders.
Dallewal, who was discharged from a Patiala hospital on Thursday, has returned to his native village. Speaking after his release, he said, “The struggle will continue in this manner until our demands are fulfilled.”
