PATIALA, November 23 — A police operation on Sunday led to the arrest of two alleged members of the Bambiha Gang following a gunfight on Bhadson road near Raungla village, Patiala Police said. Officers seized two pistols, 10 cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle from the scene.
Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma confirmed that both detained suspects—Harpreet Singh alias Makhan of Saifdipur and Gautam Badshah of Nabha—sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange. He said the men are suspected shooters in multiple cases across Punjab.
Police officials said the confrontation began after a tip-off prompted a team led by SP (Investigation) Gurbans Bains to intercept the motorcycle. “As soon as we signaled them to surrender, they opened fire at the police team,” Sharma noted. “Our personnel retaliated with controlled fire and both were hit in their legs.”
Authorities transferred the pair to Government Rajindra Hospital soon after the encounter, where they remain under medical care. “We will interrogate them once doctors declare them fit,” the SSP said, adding that both have pending cases under the Arms Act at various police stations.
The SSP said the firearms and ammunition will be sent for forensic analysis. Police are investigating whether the duo was planning another targeted attack at the time of the encounter.
