June 2, IPL 2025: Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer believes his work is unfinished as the team is yet to win the IPL title. Shreyas had performed brilliantly against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier-2 and led the team to victory while remaining unbeaten. Now Punjab will face RCB in the final on Tuesday. Shreyas had led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title last year under his captaincy and now he is trying to give Punjab its first trophy.
Shreyas is in excellent form
At a strike rate of about 176 in IPL season, Shreyas has amassed 603 runs in 16 innings, including six fifties. “Winning the match is the best feeling for the team and I would call it my best innings (against Mumbai) under pressure,” Shreyas stated during the pre-final news conference. I try to play according to the situation and don’t think too far ahead. If I am chasing a target then I must look at the run rate and what the wicket is like and which bowlers are coming. Based on this, I make a strategy and try to take the match to the end.
Shreyas said that the work is half done so he did not feel like celebrating on Sunday. He said, ‘The work has not been completed yet. We have to play another match tomorrow. I am thinking that the work is still unfinished. I have to play again tomorrow.’ He said that the contribution of other players in the team helped him to play freely. The captain of Punjab said, the job of the captain is to get the best performance from his players. We started well in the tournament and maintained that rhythm. Everyone contributed to it.
Iyer while praising coach Ricky Ponting said, he is a brilliant coach and he treats everyone equally. This boosts the morale of every player, be it junior or senior. This gives them freedom to play freely.
