Sikh Elder Critical After Golf Club Assault in US

by TheReportingTimes

Los Angeles, Aug 12 — A 70-year-old Sikh man is fighting for his life after being brutally assaulted with a golf club while on his routine morning walk near a gurdwara in North Hollywood.

Harpal Singh was found on August 4 with severe head and facial trauma near a 7-Eleven close to the Lankershim Sikh Gurdwara. He has undergone three major surgeries and remains in critical condition in the ICU, according to foxla.com.

At a press conference on Monday, Singh’s brother said he is unresponsive and unable to speak due to internal brain bleeding. “We don’t feel safe anymore,” he said, his voice breaking. “He was just taking a walk, like he did every day.”

Police have not identified the suspect or determined a motive. The Los Angeles Police Department said the incident is not currently being investigated as a hate crime but confirmed that surveillance footage from the area is under review.

Los Angeles Councilman Adrin Nazarian told reporters the city was committed to safeguarding residents and enhancing security around religious institutions.

Community leaders are urging greater police presence and stronger protections for minorities amid concerns over targeted violence. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover Singh’s medical expenses.

“The attack is horrifying and deeply traumatic for the Sikh community,” a family member said, adding that the incident has shaken their sense of safety.
