CHANDIGARH, Jan 1, 2026 — In a major development in the case involving 328 missing saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested Chartered Accountant Satinder Singh Kohli, who has been named as the prime accused in the investigation.
Kohli was arrested by a Special Investigation Team from a hotel in Chandigarh, officials said. The arrest follows directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court while hearing petitions related to the disappearance of the sacred scriptures.
AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the arrest reflected the state government’s commitment to taking action in cases linked to ‘beadbi’.
“No person involved in this case will be spared, irrespective of their position or influence,” Dhaliwal said. “The Sikh sangat has been demanding justice for years, and this is an important step in that direction.”
Dhaliwal said Kohli was serving as the SGPC’s chartered accountant at the time the saroops went missing. He described the arrest as the first major breakthrough in the case.
“The arrest of the main accused sends a clear message that accountability will be fixed,” he said, adding that all other accused would also be taken into custody.
AAP leader Baltej Pannu said the High Court-ordered probe had led to the registration of an FIR against 16 individuals and the formation of a Special Investigation Team.
“Look Out Circulars have been issued against all the accused named in the case,” Pannu said. “Kohli was absconding despite arrest warrants and was eventually traced to Chandigarh.”
Pannu said the investigation was still underway and could reveal wider links. “The police investigation is ongoing. This arrest is expected to lead to several significant disclosures connected to the conspiracy,” he said.
He reiterated that the Punjab government would continue to pursue the case until all those responsible were brought to justice.
