KOLKATA, May 1 — Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed Corporate Bhavan in New Town, Kolkata, marking a key step in consolidating India’s corporate regulatory framework under one roof.

The state-of-the-art, seven-storey building—spanning over 13,200 square meters—will house major offices under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), including the Regional Directorate (East), Registrar of Companies, Official Liquidator, Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).

“This building will serve as a true single-window interface for companies, insolvency professionals, auditors, startups, and investors,” Sitharaman said at the launch ceremony.

“It will reduce costs, speed up approvals, and improve overall efficiency, thereby enhancing the Ease of Doing Business.”

Built at a cost of Rs 150.43 crore, the building emphasizes energy efficiency, smart parking, indoor air quality with CO₂ sensors, and sustainable design, including waste recycling systems.

Sitharaman also unveiled the first-ever Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) Facilitation Centre, situated on the building’s seventh floor.

“This centre will support aspiring interns by helping them access information and resolve issues related to their applications,” she said.

The MCA-CII PMIS Centre is a joint initiative between the Ministry and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

It aims to connect youth aged 21–24—who are not in full-time education or employment—with internship opportunities offered by participating companies.

A dedicated three-member team will guide eligible candidates through the application process, from registration to placement, the Ministry stated.

“Our regulatory frameworks must safeguard good governance, enable enterprise, encourage formalisation, and build trust in our systems,” Sitharaman told MCA officials during her address.
