Srinagar, Jan 27: Fresh snowfall across the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday caused significant disruptions to air, road, and rail connectivity, with the strategic national highway closed and numerous flights cancelled at the Srinagar airport.
A senior traffic official confirmed that the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway was shut for all vehicular movement following heavy snow accumulation in and around the Navyug Tunnel.
“No vehicular movement is being permitted from either Jammu or Srinagar until further notice,” the official stated.
In addition to the main highway, authorities have closed the Mughal Road, Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) Road, and Sinthan Road due to slippery conditions and poor visibility.
Air travel faced a major setback as 25 flights were cancelled at the Srinagar International Airport. Airport authorities attributed the cancellations to low visibility and the continuous accumulation of snow on the runway.
“In view of adverse weather and continuing snowfall, airlines have cancelled several flights for the day,” an airport spokesperson said, advising passengers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for updates on rescheduling.
Rail services also faced partial interruptions, with two passenger trains cancelled. Specifically, the service between Banihal and Budgam remains suspended as railway staff work to clear the tracks.
Commuters have been advised by the administration to avoid travel on hilly routes until the weather improves and official clearance is granted.
