Over the past few days, the state’s maximum temperatures have dramatically increased. While September saw four locations record their highest maximum temperatures ever, many other locations saw their highest maximum temperatures in a decade or longer. The highest temperatures ever recorded in September were recorded in Kangra, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, and Una. Kangra recorded 35 °C on September 23–24, while Bhuntar recorded an all-time high of 35.5 °C on September 24. Shimla, Manali, and Dharamsala—all of which are typically cold places at this time of year—see a sharp increase. September recorded the highest temperatures in Kangra, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, and Una.

Similarly, on September 23, Sundernagar recorded its highest maximum temperature of 35.1 °C, and on September 24, Una recorded 38.6 °C.
The abrupt increase in temperature was ascribed by Kuldeep Srivastava, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, to the notable decline in precipitation activity during the previous few days. “Over the past few days, there has been good sunlight and a significant decrease in rainfall. The director claimed, “It caused temperatures to rise throughout the state.” Temperatures spiked sharply even in normally cold places like Shimla, Manali, and Dharamsala at this time of year. On September 23–24, Shimla saw its highest temperature of 28.4 °C since 1994, when it reached an all-time high of 28.6 °C. On September 23, Manali recorded a temperature of 27.7 °C, which was the second-highest in the previous ten years. On September 24, Dharamsala recorded its highest maximum temperature (32.0 °C) in the previous ten years.
According to Srivastava, the return of rainfall activity is expected to result in a two- to three-degree Celsius drop in maximum temperatures throughout the state over the next few days, which might provide some relief.
According to the department’s yellow alert, there will be isolated thunderstorms and lightning for the next two days. Additionally, a few locations in the state are expected to see light to moderate rainfall.
