ISLAMABAD , Nov 28— The family of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has demanded proof of life after days of rumours claiming he died in Adiala Jail.
Kasim Khan, his son, said Khan has been in detention for 845 days and spent the last six weeks in solitary confinement with no contact allowed. “No phone calls, no visits, and no information about his well-being. His sisters have been barred from meetings despite court orders. My brother and I have had no contact with him whatsoever,” Kasim wrote on social media.
Calling the isolation “deliberate,” he warned that authorities would be legally and morally accountable for any harm and urged international human rights groups to intervene. Kasim demanded confirmation that his father is alive, access to family visits, an end to “inhumane isolation,” and the release of a political leader jailed for political reasons.
Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, also said the family has been repeatedly denied court-authorized visits.
Jail officials rejected the claims, stating Khan is “completely healthy” and that the PTI leadership is aware of his condition. “All necessary care is being provided. Imran Khan is in Adiala Jail and is healthy. Social media rumours of his transfer are unfounded,” the statement said.
Khan, in custody since August 2023, has faced multiple cases he claims are politically motivated. He and his wife were sentenced in a corruption case earlier this year. In March, PTI leaders said he was held in a death cell under solitary confinement.
Protests outside Adiala Jail this week drew thousands of supporters, with some attempting to breach the facility. Police assured Aleema Khan that a meeting would be arranged. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Khan is being treated better than in his previous incarcerations.
