Chandigarh, March 2: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Sunday called for the immediate intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure the safe passage of Indians stranded across the Middle East. Mentioning the distress faced by citizens in Dubai and neighboring Arab nations due to rising tensions, the Speaker asserted that the Union Government must treat their dignified return as a matter of utmost urgency.
The appeal for central action comes as Punjab’s NRI Affairs Department intensifies its own monitoring of the situation. NRI Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh declared that the state is in direct contact with various travelers, including professionals and tourists, to assess the prevailing difficulties at UAE airports.
Dr. Singh maintained that the welfare of Punjabis overseas is the state’s leading concern and has been in touch with educational leaders like Neeru Garg of Bathinda to better understand the plight of those unable to fly home.
Speaker Sandhwan added that prompt diplomatic and logistical action is essential during such international crises to ensure no Indian citizen is left without assistance. “The safety, security, and dignity of every Indian abroad must remain the foremost responsibility of the Central Government,” he stated, referring to the need for a robust evacuation strategy.
