Amritsar, July 25: The Health Department has sealed a ghee manufacturing unit in Amritsar after seizing 368 kilograms of spurious desi ghee from its premises on Tarn Taran road.
Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Rajwinder Pal said the crackdown followed lab reports that confirmed quality violations in samples lifted from a local shop last month. “We had collected ghee samples from a shop near Gurdwara Shaheeda Sahib. After they failed the quality test, our team decided to trace the source,” the official said.
During the inspection, officials discovered that vanaspati ghee was being mixed with refined oil and artificial essence to mimic the texture and aroma of pure desi ghee.
“In total, we seized 330 kg of vanaspati and refined oil, along with five kg of artificial essence,” Pal said.
The manufacturing unit, operating under the name GK Food Trading Company and selling ghee under the brand name “Noor”, has been sealed. Legal action is expected to follow after complete analysis of the seized material.
The official added that stringent action will be taken against food adulteration to ensure public health and safety.
