Amritsar, Dec 27: SSP Vigilance Amritsar Lakhbir Singh was suspended by the Punjab government on Friday in connection with alleged irregularities in development tenders in the Ranjit Avenue area, a senior official confirmed.
The suspension is linked to claims of financial misappropriation running into crores of rupees in development works carried out in the upscale locality. According to unconfirmed reports, the move followed a complaint submitted by an IAS officer.
When contacted, Singh said he had not been formally informed about the decision and was unaware of the grounds on which the action was taken.
“I have come to know about the suspension, but I do not know the reasons,” Singh said. “Till now, I have not received any official order.”
Officials in the state government maintained that procedural steps are being followed and that further details would be shared at an appropriate stage. No statement has been issued on whether criminal proceedings or departmental action will follow.
The Vigilance Bureau has not issued a separate clarification on the matter.
