Chandigarh, March 25:The State of Punjab has informed the High Court that the post-mortem of a senior warehousing official is being meticulously documented to ensure a fair investigation into his death. During a hearing on Tuesday, the state counsel declared that the entire medical procedure for Gagandeep Singh Randhawa is being videographed at the request of his family and will be kept as vital evidence.
The court intervention came after Randhawa’s mother filed a plea alleging that her son was forced into a state of duress before his death. She stated that the official had been summoned, rebuked, and physically beaten for refusing to provide undue favors regarding government contracts. The petition further asserted that fabricated videos were used to implicate the official in misconduct after he resisted illegal demands.
According to the claims presented in court, the deceased had sent several representations to senior department managers and the Deputy Commissioner regarding the harassment he faced. The petitioner maintained that her son was unable to withstand the continuous torture and threats against his family, which ultimately led to the fatal incident.
The state counsel affirmed that the authorities are taking necessary steps to maintain the integrity of the evidence. Following these assurances, the court observed that the primary request for a transparent and documented examination had been met, concluding the current legal proceedings.
