Police investigate ₹1.63 crore compensation transfer linked to National Highway project

TARN TARAN, MAY 16 — Administrative official Anupreet Kaur Randhawa was taken into custody by police teams on Saturday morning as part of a ongoing anti-corruption inquiry into the management of public infrastructure funds.

The arrest links directly to Randhawa’s tenure as an administrative magistrate in Patti, where she oversaw land clearance and compensation distribution for the National Highway 54 infrastructure corridor between 2018 and 2019.

“Anupreet Kaur Randhawa was taken into custody following allegations of transfer of funds to relatives during the NH-54 land acquisition process while she was posted as SDM Patti,” a senior police coordinator affirmed after the early morning deployment.

According to reordered investigative briefs, the state exchequer incurred notable losses when designated land-owner compensation was diverted. Case files state that the authorized disbursements were cleared and deposited into specific private accounts without verifying verified revenue registries to confirm actual property ownership along the highway route.

The apprehension required sustained effort from local police details after teams arrived at the Gurdaspur official residence at dawn. Registries indicate the PCS officer contested the entry and formal detention brief before compliance was established by the arresting unit.

The legal proceedings add to existing local discussions regarding the officer’s administrative record, which included previous scrutiny from non-ruling political entities over the disqualification of rival nomination filings during past district-level elections.
