Patiala, March 29: Patiala witnessed a somber farewell today as former Minister Lal Singh was cremated with state honors at the Rajpura Road crematorium. The ceremony drew a significant presence from the Punjab government, with officials and representatives from across the political spectrum arriving to pay their last respects.
Representing the state administration, Additional Deputy Commissioner Navreet Kaur Sekhon placed a wreath on the body on behalf of the Chief Minister. The Punjab police stood in formation, reversing their arms in a traditional gesture of mourning before a formal salute was fired.

“The late leader was a significant figure in the state’s political landscape,” stated local representatives who attended the service. They maintained that his passing marks the end of an era for many in the Patiala and Nabha constituencies.
Key attendees included MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli and Nabha MLA Gurdev Singh Dev Mann, alongside former chairman Ranjodh Singh Hadana. Religious leaders, including Swami Brahmanand Giri and Giani Sukhdev Singh, also offered prayers during the final rites.
The family has declared that the “Antim Ardas” and tribute ceremony will take place on April 10 at the historic Gurdwara Sri Moti Bagh Sahib. Until then, supporters and relatives continue to visit the family to offer condolences for the leader who served the state for several decades.
