CHANDIGARH, APRIL 2: The Punjab government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna successfully covered a ₹4 lakh emergency surgery this week, providing a Chandigarh resident with critical care at no cost. Sukhpal Kaur was admitted to PGIMER with a life-threatening vascular condition, where her treatment was fully facilitated through the state’s cashless healthcare framework.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed that the case underscores the government’s commitment to protecting every citizen through accessible medical care. He stated that the program’s design ensures that high-risk cardiac cases receive the same-day attention they require regardless of a family’s immediate financial status.

“Every life matters and ensuring free, life-saving treatment through the Sehat Card reflects our commitment,” Dr. Balbir Singh declared. He maintained that the government continues to prioritize the strengthening of healthcare access across the region.

Dr. Sachin Mahajan of PGIMER asserted that in cases of aortic dissection, even minor delays significantly increase patient risk. He stated that the seamless integration of the Sehat Card allowed for uninterrupted treatment, ensuring that specialized care began the moment the diagnosis was confirmed.

Family members of the patient noted that the speed of the process was vital to her survival. They affirmed that the total cost of hospitalization and surgery was handled entirely by the scheme. The administration stated that this high-value claim serves as a testament to the effectiveness of the current healthcare push, which aims to provide a safety net for millions of families.
