Chandigarh, June 5: With the Meteorological Department forecasting rain and stormy weather in the coming days, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has issued a safety advisory urging residents and visitors to take precautionary measures.
MC Commissioner Amit Kumar said the advisory was aimed at protecting lives and preventing damage to city infrastructure during adverse weather conditions. “We urge all citizens to exercise caution and cooperate fully. These measures are in the collective interest of public safety,” he said.
Residents have been advised not to park vehicles under old, overgrown or heavy trees, and to avoid standing or seeking shelter under trees, especially those appearing structurally weak, during rain or strong winds.
The advisory also recommends limiting travel and pedestrian movement on tree-lined roads unless essential during stormy conditions.
People are strictly warned against touching electric poles, streetlights or park lighting fixtures, which may pose serious electrocution risks during or after rainfall. “Maintain a safe distance from both trees and electrical installations for as long as inclement weather lasts,” the advisory said.
City authorities have appealed for public cooperation to help reduce hazards and protect public property amid the forecasted weather disturbance.
