Mohali, March 8: A weekend cricket match in Mohali’s Sector 87 ended in grief after a 44-year-old player collapsed and died on the pitch. Belan Sangun, an engineer originally from Karnataka, was actively bowling during a corporate tournament when he unexpectedly lost consciousness.

The incident occurred during the latter half of the innings at the Ace Cricket Ground. Despite the quick response of his peers who transported him to a medical facility, doctors were unable to revive him.

Law enforcement representatives affirmed that they have initiated a routine investigation into the matter, although initial signs point toward a cardiac event.

Family members mentioned that the timing of the incident was particularly heartbreaking as it coincided with the birthday of Sangun’s son. His wife, Sanjita, declared that she was satisfied with the initial findings after examining the video records of the game, asserting that there was no evidence of foul play.

Colleagues and teammates maintained that Sangun was a passionate sportsman who frequently participated in local games.

One witness directly said that the loss has left the local corporate community in shock. Police officials noted that a formal report would be finalized once the autopsy results are available to confirm the exact cause of death.
