SURAT, Aug 3— In a shocking case of familial tragedy, a schoolteacher in Gujarat’s Surat allegedly poisoned his two young sons and died by suicide after discovering his wife’s extramarital relationship, police said on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Alpeshbhai Solanki, worked as a physical training instructor (PTI) at a school in the Dindoli area. He was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his residence, while his sons, aged 7 and 2, were discovered dead nearby. An empty rat poison bottle and a soda water bottle were recovered from the scene.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Gurjar confirmed the deaths and said, “We received information about the suicide. On arrival, we found Alpeshbhai and his two children dead. Initial evidence, including a suicide note and two diaries recovered from his bag, point to marital discord and emotional distress.”
In the suicide note, Solanki reportedly accused his wife, Phalguni, of having an affair with a man named Naresh Rathod. One of the diaries described his wife’s alleged relationship, while the other detailed his family situation and emotional turmoil.
“Alpeshbhai tried to confront his wife and her alleged partner,” Gurjar said. “He mentioned in the note that despite his efforts, the situation did not improve, which led him to take this extreme step.”
Police have since detained both Phalguni and Rathod for questioning. “We have detained the wife and her alleged lover. Further investigation is underway to verify the claims and determine any criminal liability,” Gurjar added.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting questions about mental health support, domestic conflict resolution, and the safety of children in vulnerable households. The police said counseling support may be extended to surviving family members as the investigation progresses.
