Counter Intelligence teams target Morinda residences following Wednesday's explosion

by TheReportingTimes

Ropar, April 2: The Punjab Police Counter Intelligence wing launched a series of raids in Ropar district today as part of the ongoing probe into the blast outside the Punjab BJP office in Chandigarh. The operation focused on Rattangarh village, where authorities sought two men believed to be connected to the Wednesday evening explosion.

While official confirmation of arrests from the wing is pending, family members in the village confirmed that Amanpreet Singh was taken into custody during the raid. The second individual, Gurtej Singh, was not present when police arrived at his residence and is currently being sought by law enforcement.

Sources close to the investigation noted that Gurtej Singh, a Rapido rider, became a person of interest shortly after the blast occurred. His absence during the raid has prompted an expanded search across the region.

The operation was executed by specialized units from the police headquarters rather than local district teams. SSP Ropar Maninder Singh affirmed the nature of the command structure, stating that the headquarters’ teams directed the maneuvers in Rattangarh.

Family members of those targeted expressed distress over the police action. Gurtej Singh’s mother asserted that the household had been distanced from her son for a significant period. She noted that they were being subjected to unnecessary pressure despite having no recent ties to his activities.

“The family has not been in contact with him for the past three to four years,” she maintained. She further explained that she only learned of his occupation as a driver through word of mouth.

Separately, the spouse of Amanpreet Singh challenged the grounds of his detention, stating that her husband held no ties to the main suspect. The Counter Intelligence wing continues to process evidence gathered during the village search as they track the whereabouts of the remaining suspect.
