Mohali, Dec 7: A 46-year-old man from Mohali died and six others, including two children, were injured when a Swift Dzire overturned and rolled into fields after being hit by another car on NH-152 near Pehowa in Kurukshetra on December 7, police said.
The deceased was identified as Ram Singh of Bakarpur, who was returning from Gogamedi Dham in Rajasthan with his daughter and relatives. Police said the body has been taken into custody and sent for postmortem.
Ram Singh had travelled to Rajasthan in his friend Harmeet Singh’s Swift Dzire (CH01 BF-0524). His daughter Varinder Kaur, 21, who was among the injured, told police they had gone to Gogamedi on December 5 along with relatives from Zirakpur, Roshanpur in Ambala, and Mani Majra.
“We were returning home after offering prayers when the accident happened,” she said.
The crash occurred near Dhanirampura village when a car coming from Kaithal (HR05AP-8731) struck their vehicle as they were crossing the road. The impact caused the Dzire to lose balance, overturn and fall off the highway into adjoining fields.
Police said further investigation is underway.
