Kharar, Oct 6: A 19-year-old college student was shot and killed during a liquor party with friends in Kharar, Mohali district, police reported. The victim, Shivang Rana, 19, a resident of Una, Himachal Pradesh, was pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) degree at a government college in Una but was currently residing in Kharar.
Following a complaint from the deceased’s mother, police have registered a case against Harvinder alias Harry, a resident of Barnau, Una district, Himachal Pradesh. An old dispute is suspected to be the motive for the murder. Authorities are currently investigating the case and conducting raids to locate the accused.
Friends of the victim noted that they all gathered in Kharar on Saturday for a party that included consuming alcohol. The sequence of events leading up to the murder was detailed by those present. A friend informed police that around 1 a.m., Harry briefly left the gathering. When he returned to the flat around 2 p.m., he showed a pistol he reportedly carried, claiming it was his own.
The fatal shot was fired hours later, around 4:30 a.m.
“As soon as he sat on the bed and started eating Maggi, a loud explosion was heard,” a friend recounted.
Everyone present witnessed Shivang lying on the bed with blood pouring from his head. Harry was observed holding the pistol and, according to witnesses, stated, “I killed Shivang.”
The friends reportedly ran and got into a car, noting that Harry had a loaded pistol. One of the friends, Shaminder Rana, called Shivang’s family around 10 a.m. to inform them of the tragedy. He reportedly told the family to “Come quickly to Flat No. 94, Villa Palacio, Kharar.” The victim’s family later found his body there.
Upon the family’s request, the group of friends then proceeded to the police station.
Police are continuing their investigation and have assured the family that they are diligently working to apprehend the accused.
