Patna, Oct 22—Ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday announced sweeping benefits for contractual government workers and Jeevika Didis, promising permanent employment and a monthly salary of Rs 30,000 if the INDIA bloc comes to power.

Addressing the media, Yadav highlighted that the roughly 2 lakh community mobilisers under the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project (BRLP) would gain government employee status. “The NDA government has ignored the welfare of Jeevika Didis. They are struggling, and we will ensure their rights and dignity,” he said.

In addition to permanent jobs and salaries, Yadav promised waivers on existing loans, interest-free credit for two years, Rs 5 lakh health insurance coverage, and a monthly Rs 2,000 allowance for mobilisers involved in other government duties. The BRLP, backed by the World Bank, focuses on the social and economic empowerment of rural women. Over 1.45 crore Jeevika Didis are currently engaged in the programme.

The RJD leader also reiterated his prior pledge of a government job for every household in Bihar within 20 months, with a new law ensuring employment to be enacted within 20 days of forming government.

He criticised the current administration, stating, “People are frustrated with corruption, rising crime, unemployment, and migration under the ‘double-engine’ NDA government.”

Reacting to the announcement, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said, “These are empty promises. RJD leaders are least bothered about the people and know they cannot fulfil them.
