Thakur accuses TMC MP of using e-cigarette in Lok Sabha

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, Dec 11— BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Thursday accused a Trinamool Congress member of using an e-cigarette in the Lok Sabha, prompting Speaker Om Birla to assure that action would be taken if a written complaint is submitted.

During Question Hour, Thakur asked whether e-cigarettes were allowed in the House. “Is it permitted to smoke e-cigarettes here?” he asked. When Birla responded in the negative, Thakur said a TMC member had been “constantly smoking e-cigarettes in the House for the past several days.”

Several BJP members demanded immediate action against the opposition MP, creating an uproar in the House. Birla called for decorum, saying, “Members must maintain the dignity of the House. If a written complaint is lodged, I will take action.”

E-cigarettes have been banned in India for several years, making their use in Parliament illegal.
