Chandigarh, March 18: Thousands of users were left unable to access X on Wednesday night following a sudden technical failure that crippled the platform’s primary functions. Monitoring services declared that the outage began to peak late in the evening, with thousands of Indian users confirming that their primary feeds had stopped updating. The disruption prevented users from interacting with posts or accessing external links, leading to a significant drop in platform activity during peak hours.
Affected users asserted that the mobile interface was particularly hit, frequently displaying errors stating that posts could not be retrieved. Despite these connectivity issues, some maintained that push notifications were still functioning, though clicking them failed to load the corresponding content. The platform maintained a “try again” prompt for most users, which failed to resolve the loading errors even after multiple attempts.
The scale of the disruption was highlighted by Downdetector, which affirmed that reports of the outage were pouring in from various geographic regions, including a massive spike in the United States. Authorities asserted that such large-scale service interruptions often stem from backend database errors or configuration updates. While services began to show intermittent signs of recovery in some areas, the platform’s stability remained a concern for many late into the night.
