CHANDIGARH, Dec 18: UT police arrested three youths for allegedly robbing a woman at knifepoint in Sector 47, recovering two knives, the victim’s mobile phone and her Aadhaar card, officials said Wednesday.
The accused were identified as Bunty Singh, 21, Abhijeet Kumar alias Golu, 19, and Nitin Kumar alias Chintu, 22, all residents of Ramdarbar.
Police said the case was registered on the complaint of Reshma, 29, a domestic worker, who reported that on Dec. 14 around 4:20 p.m., she was cycling to work in Sector 47-C when three youths on an Activa intercepted her near a house.
“One of them showed a knife and threatened me while the other two grabbed my bicycle,” Reshma told police. “They took my purse with my phone and documents and warned me not to go to the police.”
The accused were arrested based on the victim’s identification, police said. Two kamanidar knives, the stolen phone and the Aadhaar card were recovered, and the scooter used in the crime was seized. Sections of the Arms Act were added following the recovery of weapons.
All three were produced before a court. Police said Bunty Singh has three previous cases of snatching and robbery registered at Police Station Sector 31, while the other two have no criminal record.
