Three cities get holy status

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Nov 24: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday announced in the Vidhan Sabha that the corridors of Sri Amritsar Sahib, Talwandi Sabo and Sri Anandpur Sahib have been officially designated as holy cities. The state government confirmed the decision applies to the three key Sikh pilgrimage centres, each of which hosts one of the Takhts.

During his address in the House, Mann said the step acknowledges the profound religious value of the cities. He noted that they serve as the spiritual foundation of Punjab and deserved formal recognition from the state. “These important cities of Punjab with the presence of three Takhts have now been officially given the status of holy cities,” he said.

Sri Amritsar Sahib, Talwandi Sabo and Sri Anandpur Sahib form the core of Sikh religious geography and attract devotees from across India and abroad. By announcing the designation on the Assembly floor, Mann underlined the government’s intention to recognise and preserve their sacred identity.

Officials added that further details regarding implementation and regulations linked to the holy-city status would be shared in due course.
