Three Held with 181 Kg Poppy Husk, Psychotropic Pills in Ropar

ROPAR, May 22 — In a major crackdown on narcotic smuggling, Ropar police arrested three individuals and seized 181 kg of poppy husk and 240 pills of psychotropic substances, senior superintendent of police Guljeet Singh Khurana said on Thursday.

As part of the district’s anti-drug campaign, police teams conducted intensified checks at multiple locations. During one such operation near Kiratpur Sahib, Hardeep Singh of Gondpur Jai Chand village (Una) and Abhishek of Amroh village (Talwara) were caught with large quantities of poppy husk.

In a separate case, Babandeep Singh, a resident of Ramgarh Manda village in Morinda area, was arrested with 240 psychotropic drug pills in his possession.

All three have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

SSP Khurana said the anti-drug campaign will continue with stricter checks and public engagement. “Under project Sampark, we are also spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction,” he added.
