Three Killed in Separate Road Accidents in Mohali, Derabassi, Zirakpur

by TheReportingTimes

MOHALI, July 2 Three men lost their lives in separate road accidents in Mohali, Derabassi and on the Kalka-Zirakpur highway on Monday, with police attributing all incidents to reckless driving.

In the first accident, 27-year-old Rajvinder Singh, a security guard, died after a speeding car hit his motorcycle near the railway underbridge on Airport Road, Sector 82, around 8 am. Police said the car, bearing registration number HR 68 3530, rammed into Rajvinder’s two-wheeler as he was heading to duty. Bystanders rushed him to Sohana Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Rajvinder’s father said his son had left home at 8 am as per his usual schedule. “We received a call from his friend, who witnessed the accident and took him to the hospital,” he said.

The underbridge where the crash occurred is known for frequent accidents. In March, an IT professional from Uttarakhand lost his life at the same location. SHO IT City Inspector Satwinder Singh noted, “Traffic flow is heavy during peak morning hours, and vehicles often rush through this stretch, making it highly accident-prone.”

Later that evening, in Derabassi, 26-year-old Tarlochan Singh, a car mechanic from Chandiala village, died after crashing into a tractor on his motorcycle around 8 pm. His uncle, who was following him on another two-wheeler, told police the tractor (PB 70 H 2400) was being driven recklessly and stopped abruptly. Tarlochan collided into the rear and fell. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

A case has been registered under Sections 281, 324(4), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the tractor driver, who is also a resident of the same village.

In a third fatality reported the same night, Sarvesh Kumar, a 55-year-old home guard volunteer, was killed while crossing the Kalka-Zirakpur highway around 9:30 pm. According to SHO Sukhbir Singh of Sector-20 police station, Kumar was on his way to the Sector-19 police post when a speeding motorcyclist struck him while he was on foot.

Originally from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Kumar lived in Moginand village, Panchkula, with his family and two sons—one of whom also works in Sector-19. Police said the injured motorcyclist was taken to GMCH-32 and an FIR has been lodged, with the motorcycle seized.

All three incidents have reignited concerns over rash driving and inadequate enforcement on busy roads in and around Mohali. Investigations are ongoing.
