Ludhiana, July 18: The local health department’s food safety team has issued challans to three bakery units in Ludhiana after finding them operating under unhygienic conditions during a two-day inspection drive conducted on Wednesday and Thursday.
The inspections targeted bakery units manufacturing fruit cakes, buns, rusks (fans), and cream rolls. Of the five bakeries visited, three were found in violation of food safety norms. The units located at Jalandhar Bypass, Basti Jodhewal, and Tibba Road were challaned on the spot, officials confirmed.
District Health Officer Dr Amarjit Kaur said samples of various food products and raw materials were collected and sent to the state food laboratory for further analysis. These include two types of fruit cakes, cream, salt, used cooking oil, palmolein oil, milk cake, rusks (fans), and cream rolls.
“Ensuring food safety is our topmost priority. No bakery or food unit will be allowed to compromise public health through unhygienic practices. We are committed to enforcing the law strictly,” said Dr Amarjit Kaur.
The department said that further action will be taken based on the lab reports, in line with provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Officials added that the inspection drive is part of an ongoing effort to uphold hygiene and food quality standards across the city. The food safety team reiterated its commitment to regular monitoring and strict enforcement in the interest of public health.
