JIND, 26 June — The district of Jind has been rattled by three murders in just 48 hours, each unfolding under disturbing circumstances — from brutal beatings to a sudden stabbing, with motives ranging from personal enmity to long-standing family disputes.
In the most recent incident, 24-year-old Sahil Kumar, who had been married just 13 days earlier, was stabbed to death by his neighbour on Tuesday evening in Joginder Nagar. According to a police spokesperson, the accused, Anil Kumar, attacked Sahil without provocation while he was sitting outside his house. Sahil was rushed to the civil hospital, where he was declared dead.
“Anil had recently been released on parole, and his son is currently in jail,” the spokesperson said, adding that the victim’s family reported no known enmity with the accused.
A day earlier, Raju, a 40-year-old taxi driver from Narwana, was beaten to death near Ghaso Khurd village while returning home. His brother, Dinesh Kumar, told police that Raju was assaulted by a group of men led by Mandeep and Chottu, allegedly due to an old rivalry.
Uchana SHO Balwan Singh confirmed that three accused — Mandeep and Randeep of Safa Kheri village and Sahil of Palwa village — have been arrested. “They were presented in court and have been sent to two days of police custody for further interrogation,” Singh said.
In the third and most complex case, 62-year-old Randhir was lynched by a mob of 10–12 men over a family dispute that began three years ago, police said. The conflict reportedly started when Randhir’s son’s brother-in-law eloped with the daughter of one of the accused. Police said Randhir had been asked to mediate but relations soured when the couple refused to separate.
“The murder appears to be premeditated,” said police spokesperson Anil Kumar, confirming that Naresh alias Nessa, Rajesh alias Bhalu, and 10 unidentified persons have been booked for Randhir’s murder. “A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the remaining accused,” he added.
The spate of violence has prompted security agencies to intensify patrols in vulnerable localities while police continue investigations into all three killings. Authorities have urged residents to report any information that could assist in arrests.
