Malerkotla, Dec 25— A widow, her mother and her minor son were found dead in an apparent suicide in Bhudan village on Tuesday night after leaving behind a video accusing several people of harassment, police said.
The victims were Inderpal Kaur, 33, her mother Hardeep Kaur and Inderpal’s 9-year-old son, Jordan Singh. The boy was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious but could not be saved, officials said.
An FIR has been lodged against Inderpal’s mother-in-law, Charanjit Kaur, and nine others on charges of abetment to suicide. Police said the reasons cited by the family are being verified.
According to officials, the family recorded a video before the incident in which they named at least 10 individuals and described alleged mental harassment. The video was shared with a relative, who informed the authorities.
Family members said Inderpal had been staying with her mother since the death of her husband, Pawandeep Singh, in a road accident seven years ago.
Police records show that a dowry-related case was registered in 2017 against Charanjit Kaur and her son but was later quashed after a compromise.
SP (D) Sat Pal Sharma said the investigation is underway. “We are examining all aspects of the case, and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” he said.
