Tow-truck rivalry turns violent in Ontario parking lot

by TheReportingTimes

BRAMPTON, Dec 13— A violent clash between rival tow-truck operators in Ontario has led to the arrest of three Indian-origin men, while police continue to search for the suspected gunman, authorities said.

Peel Regional Police said the incident unfolded on Oct. 7 at about 10:45 p.m. in a parking lot near McVean Drive and Castlemore Road, where two competing tow-truck groups became involved in a confrontation.

“One individual sustained injuries as a result of the shooting,” police said, adding that the injuries were not serious.

Investigators later linked three suspects to one of the groups involved. On Nov. 20, officers carried out a search warrant at a Caledon residence and took the men into custody.

Police identified the accused as brothers Manjot Bhatti, Navjot Bhatti and Amanjot Bhatti.

Manjot Bhatti has been charged with offences including reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and knowingly occupying a vehicle containing a firearm. He was released on bail following proceedings at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Navjot Bhatti and Amanjot Bhatti were charged with knowingly travelling in a vehicle containing a firearm. Both men were released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a future date.

Police said they are continuing efforts to identify and locate the fourth suspect captured on video firing the weapon. “The suspect is believed to be a South Asian male,” police said, describing him as wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white running shoes.
